OVCX-Cap City Cross "Buckingham Financial John Bryan CX Classic" USCF Ohio State Championships

Awesome day to race a tandem at John Bryan State Park.......and to win it!
I was the captain and Jon Clous was my stoker. He rocked!
We had 6 or 8 tandems to compete against. This biggest name was John Gatch (Two Johns Podcast) and Mike as his captain. They are the National Tandem Champions.
Jon and I jumped out for the whole shot then caught the slow guys in the group before us and weaved our way through the traffic. It slowed down John G and we never looked back.
There were four barriers and one sandpit. We somehow mastered them all (compared to last year where we had terrible technique).
Feels great to have a State Championship Jersey after Double G harassed Jon and I all last year that he beat us.
The competition is getting more challenging don't know how long we can hold the title.

7th OA, 4th in State. Awesome day, perfect weather. Course was a bit slippery. Fell once, and some how got tangled up in the tape shortly after. It was a really fun, fast course! Can't wait to do it again next year.

First time for Erin and I for doing a Cyclocross tandem race.

What a really really cold morning! However, its amazing how quick you warm up when cyclocross is involved;)
It was a good day! I fighted as much as I could for third, but took a couple crashes on the course! In hind sight, sometimes maybe its easier just to run it! ha Live and learn! Great course! I had a really nice start into race and off the pavement to the grassy course sitting fourth! Have to say the Womans 3/4 35+ holds alot of competition so I am glad to be in the mix;) Starting to really get the whole cyclocross scene and becoming more of a competitor! Ugh! Roadie at heart! What can I say! See ya on the roads! haha

Sixth overall, but second in state. Wow, that was a nice suprise! The course was fast and tough, and technically tricky. I was ultra-conservative through the corners and my squeaky brakes announced that for me at every turn (thanks squeaky brakes). Those corners seemed really tight for the speed you could get up to approaching them. But the singletrack was easy for us, since ours was the first field and it hadn't been muddied up like it was in the later ones. Sand pit was a breeze too because we had a small field and it had a nice wide hard-packed track near the middle. A few fields later, it looked a lot more challenging. It was fun watching the tandems go through that. I noticed an additional set of barriers went up sometime AFTER our race! Maybe they were too high for the juniors to jump? In any case, there are advantages to racing first.

It was a cold and muddy race; a great way to start racing again after my shoulder injury. The last time I had raced it was in the 80s and dry, so I was glad to slip and slide a bit. I had a pretty noneventful race, testing my fitness and skills in the mud. I ended up 7th, which I was happy with considering the lack of time I had put in lately.

Lots of very fast mofo's came out. I got the last call-up spot. Didn't show up with any expectations for the race, made it a fun day. Cross is officially on the map in Ohio, tons of people at the race. Great atmosphere.

It was an awesome day to be at John Bryan State Park. First in state in SS Open and 25 in A. Fun course with plenty of twists and turns with a few power sections. All in all, good day at the races.

Woke up to 16 degrees on the home thermometer... had second thoughts about getting up. It was 38 by race start however. The frozen ground turned greasy in the sun. I had a great time on the downhill single track in the woods, hated the false flat on the return. Wimped out and ran the sand after the first two laps and didn't have the nerve to bunny hop the logs... both regrets. I continued with my role of escort to the bottom 1/4th of the field.
