As part of the YMCA Corporate Challenge a few of us take part in this for our respective companies. This year I was on one of the AEP relays. This is always a fun event to take part in, and terrific a food spread afterwards. Between all the divsions there were 556 finishers.

After having ridden course the day before I knew mostly what to expect. We had to get a last minute replacement swimmer so one of the individuals from AEP moved over to swim for our relay. I started really far back in the field so there were many targets up the road. Although with that many people on the road in front of me it's more like traffic congestion. I kept up my pace and picked my way through. A couple of corners had some strange cone placements so we weren't sure which way to go through/around/inside. At the end of the ride you have to dismount before going over the timing mats. I scarred one of the volunteers half to death as I come screaming up to the dismount line and skid to halt as he's got his arms out frantically waving for me to stop.

In the end my ride time was second only tot he winning elite person. As always this was a blast and I'll be sure to return next year assuming the company still wants me to ride on a relay. Word has it they're going to build another relay around Kelly for next year.

Oh btw, Kelly and Wendy had the #1 and #2 female ride times as well. Katherine did the entire event taking 2nd in her age group.

Well, my team was 13th in the YMCA division. This includes teams and individuals. Once again a very cool race. Lots of people, lots of fun. New course this year for the bike. Liked it better in some ways, not so much around a dog leg turn. They were a little enthusiastic with the orange traffic cones on the corners. Had a great time, we think 2nd our of all of the women in the entire race. Looking forward to next year, may try it as an individual...

This was my first time trial and my first triathlon experience. I did the cycling leg for one of the AEP relay teams. Will was so kind to let me borrow his aerobars and Jim and Wendy got my time trial position all set up. We practiced on the Groveport course, then hit the triathlon course the day before the race. The race was a blast and my team pulled off 16th place out of 58 teams! I like time trials a lot more than I thought I would. I set a goal of 23mph average and ended up with a 22.8 average. Thanks to Will for the aerobars and to Jim and Wendy for teaching me the ropes of time trials. Now I want a TT bike.
